Sam Kudria

Sam rarely stays still. While Alisa prefers to move quietly through the wedding day and observe what is already happening, Sam is usually looking for what else could happen. He might take a bridesmaid to a staircase simply because he has just seen a shot there. He might start a dance battle between the groom’s friends, move a group somewhere because the light is better, or suddenly turn an ordinary corner of the venue into a scene. Sometimes an idea requires more than a camera. Sam can build a simple prop or decoration himself, move furniture, work with mirrors, lights, or whatever happens to be available. Some of his ideas exist for exactly as long as it takes to film them. Sam is also responsible for a significant amount of the humour on set. His job is not to turn a wedding into a production. It is to recognise when people are ready to play — and give them a reason to.

Sam looks for images that feel like they shouldn’t quite exist. An unusual angle. A reflection. A strange foreground. A camera somewhere a camera would not normally be. A lighting setup created five minutes before a speech because the existing light simply wasn’t good enough. He likes taking something familiar and finding another way to look at it. That also means working closely with the people behind the wedding. If the lighting during dinner can be better, Sam will talk to the lighting technician. If the DJ can help create the right atmosphere for a shot, he will work with the DJ. And if there is no lighting technician at all, sometimes Sam becomes one himself. The goal is simple: when something important happens, it should not only be documented. It should look and sound as good as it felt.

Every wedding has the couple. And then, if Sam gets lucky, there is someone else. A best friend. An uncle. A bridesmaid. Someone’s father. The guest who somehow appears everywhere. The person who starts dancing before everyone else. Sam loves finding these secondary characters. Once he notices one, he may quietly follow their story throughout the wedding — collecting small appearances, reactions, and increasingly strange situations. They might have absolutely nothing to do with the official wedding timeline. But sometimes they are exactly what makes a wedding film feel like a real film rather than a record of events.

For Sam, sound is almost as important as the image. Before wedding filmmaking, Sam and Alisa had their own recording studio. A lot of what they learned there eventually became part of the way Kudrya Studio approaches wedding films. Voices, speeches, vows, room sound, and small pieces of atmosphere are treated as part of the story rather than simply technical audio that needs to be recorded. Sam genuinely enjoys the technical side of sound — microphones, recorders, signal chains, and finding ways to capture clean audio in places that were never designed for recording. A beautiful image can show you what happened. Sound can take you back there.

Sam is responsible for the technical side of Kudrya Studio. Cameras, lenses, batteries, microphones, recorders, lighting, backup equipment, and all the small things nobody should have to think about on a wedding day. He probably thinks about them too much. If an interesting new camera or piece of filmmaking technology appears and genuinely offers something better, there is a good chance Sam has already researched it, tested it, or found a reason why it should somehow end up at the next wedding. Not because equipment makes a film good. But because when an idea appears, the equipment should never be the reason it cannot happen.

How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are among Sam’s favourite series. That probably explains some of the humour. But Fight Club remains one of the films closest to him creatively because of the number of unexpected visual and narrative choices hidden inside it. The film constantly finds another way to communicate an idea instead of choosing the most obvious one. That is what Sam looks for in filmmaking too. Not something strange simply for the sake of being strange. A different way to tell the same story.

Sam is drawn to energy. He often takes the lead on wedding films that need to feel faster, funnier, and more rhythm-driven — films where music, movement, dialogue, reactions, and visual jokes can collide. He loves editing parties, friends, dancing, and all the controlled chaos that begins when the formal part of a wedding starts to disappear. A speech can become the setup for a joke. A guest we saw three hours earlier can suddenly return as a character. A tiny reaction can become a transition between scenes. Something completely accidental can become the structure of an entire sequence. The edit does not have to behave. It just has to feel right.

The unexpected. Sam is responsible for many of the ideas, unusual shots, technical decisions, lighting experiments, and spontaneous scenes that give Kudrya Studio films their energy. He pushes when a moment needs energy and disappears when it doesn’t. He can direct a group of friends, build something for a single shot, redesign the lighting, record a speech, follow a secondary character through the wedding — and then spend far too much time in the edit making sure a two-second joke lands perfectly. His strength is seeing what else an ordinary moment could become — and finding a way to film it before it disappears.
